Cite sources
Get answers that point back to the exact document and page.
Every search result includes the paper it came from and the page numbers. Ask your assistant to include them, and you can check any answer against the original.
Ask for citations
Answer using only my papers, and cite the document and page for every claim.
A typical answer looks like:
Revenue in Europe grew by 18% compared with the previous year (2026 Annual Report, p. 12). Most of the growth came from Germany and France (Q4 Board Update, p. 3).
Keep answers grounded
To reduce answers that aren't backed by your documents, tell the assistant what to do when it can't find something:
If you can't find the answer in my papers, say so instead of guessing.
Save it as an instruction
Most assistants let you save standing instructions, such as Claude's project instructions or ChatGPT's custom instructions. Add a line like this so you don't have to repeat it:
When using Paperful, always cite the document title and page number.
