Troubleshooting
Fix common problems connecting to the Paperful MCP server.
Make sure your client supports OAuth for remote MCP servers. If it doesn't, connect through mcp-remote. Also check that your browser isn't blocking pop-ups from your client.
Check that Paperful is turned on for the current chat or session. Mentioning Paperful in your question, such as "search my papers", also helps the assistant pick the right tool.
The connection was approved without permission to read papers. Disconnect Paperful from your client, connect again and approve all requested permissions.
Papers can only be searched once they've finished processing. Ask the assistant to list your papers and check their status. Also check that you connected the right workspace: ask "Which Paperful workspace are you connected to?" to run whoami.
read_paper returns up to 200,000 characters so a single paper doesn't overflow the assistant's context. Ask the assistant to search for the part you need instead.
Access is refreshed automatically, but you'll need to sign in again if you revoked access or haven't used the connection for a long time.
Still stuck?
Try the server directly with the MCP Inspector to tell whether the problem is with the server or your client.
